14 weeks in

Well how time flies! It certainly doesn’t feel like 14 weeks since I got married. Obviously I can’t speak for my lovely wife, but it feels to me like the weeks have just breezed by. What’s changed I ask myself? Well a new car for Julie, new patio, paths and driveway and the arrival of our new Border Terrier puppy Ollie. Quite a busy time then – not to mention frequent trips to the bank and poop bin!

The wedding was absolutely fabulous and the honeymoon in Lake Como equally as special. On that note a big thank you needs to go out to a host of Savvy’s suppliers and friends. To Paul Jones (again) for his impromptu wedding portraiture, Solo Players for their exquisite strings, David Kurtz Williams for his fab caricature of Julie and me, and finally to Andy Heggs and his team at Drumbeat Creative who designed and produced all our invitations etc. Thank you.

Helen’s indifference to dogs (including mine) has meant Ollie has been kept away from the office, however she was invited on our recent Morecambe Cross Bay walk. A long walk for a 20 week old pup, but one she thoroughly enjoyed especially every time I had to pick her up to wade through a channel. It’s alright for some!

Cross Bay Walk update

In July’s newsletter we mentioned that Helen and I were going to undertake the Morecambe Bay Cross Bay walk as part of our CSR Programme to raise money for our chosen charities, Help for Heroes and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

Well, one bright fine sunny morning (Sunday 5th September) we assembled on the shores of Morecambe bay in blazing hot sunshine, a gentle breeze blowing, accompanied by friends,  family and my new Border Terrier pup Ollie, along with about 90 other complete strangers.  The sun shone all the way and we had a wonderful afternoon as we walked the 9 ½ miles across the varying sands and through the 3 fast running rivers of the bay.

Small children, dogs and some of the less than brave adults had to be transported through the waters on the gigantic sea tractor whilst others were carried aloft out of harm’s way. Our expert Guide for the afternoon was Alan Sledcombe, a local fisherman who not only expertly guided us across the bay but provided an entertaining and informative commentary throughout. His knowledge of the history of the bay and the dangers it can present has us all gripped. One surprise none of us could have anticipated was at the half way point when we stopped for drinks to be met by a quad bike packed with freshly caught (3 hours previously) fish for sale.

Food featured in a big way on this intrepid adventure and before setting off we decided to re-enact some well remembered childhood traditions for the Cross Bay Walk which meant sitting on the beach eating huge vanilla ice-creams with chocolate flakes to get us going and the promise of a bag of fish n ‘chips for tea when we got to Grange-over-Sands on the other side.

In the process I raised over £80 with money still coming in from well wishers. In particular I’d like to thank Paul Watson, Jamie Clouting, Cath Douglas, Mike Gibson and my mum for their support. Helen is still in the process of collecting monies and looks forward a sizeable donation for her chosen charity. More news soon.
